When ever I turn on the camera in Record it opens in Play.
That cannot be explained, yours is the only camera that does.

Even if I change it to 1 or 2, when I turn off the camera & on again it is back to 0.

After changing it, did you run the script ?

Yes, It came up MD testing, no shooting.
How long does it take to run a script ?
It keeps running for about 30 seconds & goes to sleep, I keep waking it up.
It is wp to 1cells, trigger 185 & rising ?

If I stop this test (press the shutter) & exit <ALT> & re-enter <ALT> I get fast react photo MD & it keeps shooting every 4 seconds (as fast as it can, take a shot, process it & display it, focus & shoot again).
This keeps up even though the camera is sitting on a solid desk with no movement ?

I goes to sleep,
means the screen goes blank & the record light is still on & I move the lever back to record & it wakes up & continues for another 30 seconds, counting these 1 cells, trigger 185.......etc.

It is up to 1 cells, trigger 185 & rising,
this seems to be the script running or is it testing ?

You and Gregg need to compare notes on this.
You have the same cameras and SDM build.

There is a menu item (in the normal SDM and CHDK) that disables screen blanking in ALT mode or when running a script.

Although you cannot access that item in this 'Lite' build, it has been set in the code to disable blanking when in ALT mode.

Unless your code is corrupted  .......

I'm at work right now, but if you give me a list of things you want me to check out or test, I'd be glad to do that when I get home tonight. As far as comparing notes, If I don't need my camera to answer, go right ahead.

@Gregg

As your workday exactly corresponds to Col's sleeping time, I will ask a few questions to try to speed things up :-

1. The camera always powers-up in Record mode ?
Without SDM or CHDK, does the S5IS power-up in Playback mode ?

2. The camera screen does not blank (after the time set in the Canon menu) ?

3. Col mentioned he was not able to determine firmware version by the usual methods, he had to use Zeno's utility.

Can you determine firmware version by usual methods ?

4. Is it possible the Australian firmware is different,  not in function but  in the memory-locations of various functions ... having no effect on CHDK but crashing SDM ?
Seems very unlikely.

Hi David & Gregg
I just looked at getting a cheap Canon to try the SDM on but they are not on the CHDK list.
The cheapest is the Canon IXUS 110 IS Digital Camera - 12.1 Megapixel at $300. Not in my budget or choice of camera, & to get two to do stereo, impossible ! At least I looked. The Canon PowerShot A495 Digital Camera - 10 Megapixel is the cheapest at $133 or less, but not supported by CHDK ?
Cheers
Col

Yes, If I choose to power it up in Playback mode with the power switch.
2. The camera screen does not blank (after the time set in the Canon menu) ?
No, it blanks only after the time selected by the Canon menu.
3. Col mentioned he was not able to determine firmware version by the usual methods, he had to use Zeno's utility.

Yes, I have only used the ver.req/vers.req method to determine the version.
4. Is it possible the Australian firmware is different,  not in function but  in the memory-locations of various functions ... having no effect on CHDK but crashing SDM ?
Seems very unlikely.

I guess I'd have to agree that there may be some difference in the Australian firmware but would think that running vers.req (if Col could run it) should reflect a difference.

If Col could give me all the info that the Zeno method returns, I'll compare it with my camera.

Gregg
