I made a simple remote control to shoot with my Canon PowerShot A710. You can use any IR remote control from TV, DVD. You must only push and hold one button. My device add a 1,5 second delay to pulses from TV remote control. At this time the camera focus and when next pulse come, it shoot. For external power I used a LiION battery from mp3 player. It works fine.

can u write more details how it was connected with USB cable.

Hi, the output from IR remote is connected to GND and +5V of usb connector in camera.
