I can find the Miscellaneous stuff but cant see anywhere in this menu to do as recommended in the userguide

The Ixus85 does not support the adjustable <Alt> key yet.

Thanks for your reply fe50 , I will stop trying. Do you think this is something that might be supported at some time ?
