Canon A540 - CHDK loads on boot, but <ALT> button doesn't work

Canon-A540
CHDK: a540-100b-0.9.9-918
MacbookPro
PNY SD 2.0Gb card

Here is what I used to get set up:
Acid - to get firmware version
SDM/CHDK Installer (Version 1.09) - To format disk, make bootable,  and install the CHDK package.

All seems to go well, and CHDK installer says that all files were copied correctly.
Upon booting up the A540, I get the CHDK logo, and the standard view battery status, etc...all show up.

My problem is that by pressing the <ALT> button, (aka the "Print" button on the A540) I get nothing. No CHDK menu shows up.

I've looked all over the forums and wiki and cannot find anyone else with this problem, is there something that i'm missing? I've tried both the large and small builds, and the behavior does not change at all.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated by this newb.

Even if you will not be using it, try replacing DISKBOOT.BIN with the SDM version  :-

Does that work ?

By work do you mean does it load? If so, then yes. As it loads I get a blue "1.83", after load I get the Blue 'Direct Zoom' status, and battery indicator in the upper left corner of the display.

However no button (including the print/ALT button) manages to get me into a new menu set.

By work, I was referring to the PRINT button.

That part of the SDM code is the same as CHDK.

SDM with the A540 has been used by one tester, but not version 1.83.

That should not make any difference to the PRINT button.

Obviously, the CHDK code would not be posted if something as basic as the PRINT button was not working.

Does the PRINT button actually work without CHDK ?

I guess you have to connect it to a printer.

I have fixed this issue. After plugging into a printer to confirm that the button works, i determined that it is a faulty button. Wiggling my thumb back and forth on the button and applying more pressure than I should have to resulted in the <ALT> menu appearing.

Thank you for your help all!

I thought I had tried everything........everything but that apparently :)
