There are build and installation instructions on the wiki now: http://magiclantern.wikia.com/wiki/550D

Be sure to clone the 550d branch from hg when you fetch the source from bitbucket.org/hudson/magic-lantern

Is it at all likely that CHDK type script functions are translatable to Magic Lantern hack? Or vice versa?

Magiclantern is an awful software. Badly written and even worsely implemented.

What's wrong about ML? Trammell's code is very flexible and modular, although at first sight it may be a little more complex than needed.

CHDK implements very well the separation between camera-specific stuff and core stuff (I wish I knew how to do that in ML).

Well what I found wrong is:

1) menu flickers and it's very heavy.
2) ML startup overwrites the framebuffer (and that's awful)
3) ISO setting doesn't work (or I'm too dumb for it to work..pick one)
4) going back and forth in menus locks the camera and I have to remove battery to start it up again.

1) It's a known problem. On my camera, it's around 1 small flick per second. If I block the events which make Canon FW draw over the menus, the camera becomes unstable. Patch welcome.
2) Put your hand near the LCD sensor to clear the screen. In LV it clears itself.
3) Only works in manual (photo and movie) and P, Tv, Av.
4) Never happened to me (and I go back and forth a lot of times). Find a sequence of key presses which locks the camera and report the problem.

1) not from me :(
2) yep.. I know..
3) I use only manual modes.. how to set a specified ISO? even in manual mode it goes in normal iso steps..
4) I used 19 december version... now I'm trying 7 Jan version and it didn't lock-up for now.

My bad.. I installed the version in the WIKI thinking it was the latest..

It's still "bumpy" but the latest version works.
