Donations to developers?

Hi,

I have just joined the forum (because i have just got a canon :P). I am a big fan of your work and I understand and appreciate the time and effort that was put in.  I have a suggestion that might encourage people to participate more and award the hard work of the guys who are porting and scripting.  How about opening a donation link for the guys who are contributing in this work. That being said, it should never be an obligatory donation (no selling!!!), but any donation with any amount any one feels like giving, which can be easily done by paypal for example.

What do you guys think?

So many people have contributed to CHDK that it is impossible to fairly decide each person's contribution.

Is a large amount of easy but tedious code worth more than a few lines of code that took a lot of time to develop ?

Most people who made great contributions in the past are no longer active in the forum.

How about rewarding the 'inventor' of CHDK, our Ukrainian friend 'VitalyB' ?

No-one knows who he is !

Maybe Andrei Gratchev (GrAnd) .. he built upon VitalyB's pioneering work and basically created the 'firm foundation' of the development kit ?

I study GrAnd's code (and that of others) simply as an enjoyable and useful way to learn 'C' programming.

Do not worry about it, just be grateful    :)

As Microfunguy says, there's no practical way to distribute donations to "CHDK" as a whole. The way porting is done also means that a large percentage of the work is done by people who are just passing through, rather than in identifiable core team. Some projects have a non-profit foundation that accepts donations, but CHDK is nowhere near that organized, and even if we were CHDKs legal status is murky enough that it might face difficulties.

Involving money always risks creating additional conflict.

If CHDK as a whole were to accept donations, the only way I could see to do it would be something like the VIM project does: http://www.vim.org/sponsor/index.php

@hwntw
That doesn't sound like a donation.
Don't forget what the H stands for.
