First question: now I tried to use the camera calibration tab, to reduce reds, but that doesn't always remove the reddish glow. How can I get better color consistency? Since the camera profile is embedded in the DNG I cannot assign another profile.
Well, yes you can. As of ACR 4.5 you've had the ability to define custom profiles for your cameras.
See
DNG Profiles at labs.adobe.com (free registration required). Adobe provided the free DNG Profile Editor, and X-Rite have provided the
ColorChecker Passport which is a neatly packaged product that I use all the time.
OSX and Windows only, but if you're using CS3 already then presumably that isn't a problem for you.
If you have access to a ColorChecker target (Passport or the older versions) you can take photos of it in several specific lighting conditions and produce a "dual-illuminant" profile, make that the Camera Raw default for your camera, and hopefully your problem is solved!
Second question: I have the feeling that the "tint" while balance slider is of for a value of 10, correct?
That all depends on the colour of the light you're trying to compensate for. If you have something in your picture that should be "neutral" you can use the white-balance dropper to pick the appropriate temp/tint values to make it neutral, but if other colors in your image are still screwy after that you definitely need a better profile. See the built-in defaults (e.g. Daylight/etc) for values that should work with standard profiles.
