I Did that.

Still get the error message.

"Memory card error" in the center of screen.
"Memory card Locked" quickly appears in the bottom of screen.

CDHK is loaded, but no photos are taken.

I'm having this interesting sensation of "deja vu all over again".   Take a look at this : http://chdk.setepontos.com/index.php?topic=5570.msg67637#msg67637.

But rocardomenzer says that CHDK works on his 2G card.  So that can't be it.  Strange.  Equally strange that it says his card is locked when it is not.

In my camera, it shows the CHDK text, then shows the error messages.
Build info: CHDK 0.9.9-1216

I changed the menus setup, but the changes has not been saved.
Is there another test  I can do to help find the problem?

In this message [ http://chdk.setepontos.com/index.php?topic=5570.msg67804#msg67804 ] you says about test a version of CHDK for "f" firmware, but I didn't find it... Is testing necessary yet? If you point me where to download it, I can do it.

Well, that means you have the SD card setup correctly.   Do you see the round CHDK logo and text   or   just the text information ?

I'm not sure what changing the menus setup means ?  The Canon menus or the CHDK menus ?

Can you even get the canon menus to activate when you press the <ALT> key ( I think its the DISP key )?

Ignore that message - its something that happened two months ago that probably does not matter now.

Only text. No logo. (Only PS.FI2 in card).

I mean CHDK menus. For example:
I changed battery charge graph from top to bottom. After turning camera off, restarting it, and loading CHDK again, the graph is in the top position again.

Yes. I can access Canon menus when <Alt> is off. When it's on, CHDK menus are accessed.

Well, I need to sleep now. But tomorrow I will be back for any test you want me to make.

So CHDK is booting but can't find the logo.  Means it is either not on the card or not in the partition active when it looks.  You might want to try putting all the CHDK files on both partitions.

Not saving the CCHDK.CFG file.   I'm not sure why at this point.

Can you get a uBasic script to run ?

Ok. I made a little test now:
I've formated the 2gb card with FAT32. Then extracted the FULL version of CHDK to the card and loaded it manually (via "Firmware update" option in camera). It worked! With write protected and unprotected card. The CHDK logo has showed up! I did not tryed to make the card bootable, just loaded CHDK manually. The camera is capable of writing to the card, because I took a test picture.

I did exact the same procedure with the 16gb card, but it fails with the same problem: It says the card is protected and no logo is shown. The "remaining space" is shown as 0M.

Maybe the error is caused by the size of card, and not by it's file system type?

@ricardomenzer

More likely it's your (16 GB) card -- can you give some details (brand? is it a mini/micro SD w/ adapter ? etc.)
Try writing to it via cardreader + computer, can you fill it all the way ?

Also, remember that an SD card write-lock does not really lock the card; rather the reader or camera
microswitch that detects it, passes the signal to the operating system. This means that an unexpected
Card Locked message could well have mechanical grounds, i.e. microswitch & lock slider don't play well together - think dust, or a very 'loose' slider that gets pushed in the lock position during card insertion.

hope that helps,

wim

I Didn't fill the full card yet, but I've filled it up to about 5gb, using the camera. Its a Transcend SD card (not micro nor miniSD). I don't think it's a broken/non genuine card, but i can do a test to see if it accept data to its full capacity.

I don't think it is something like that also. The slider is well built and its hard to move accidentally. Also, my computer correctly reads when it's locked or unlocked, the camera also did, when CHDK is not loaded.

I'm preparing the card to be bi-partitioned, with sdminste.exe to test. I'll post the results soon.

I think I'm noticing a trend with some of the newer cards which might have something to do with the speed.  I'm wondering if the new "fast" class 10 cards startup so fast that it "breaks" the CHDK boot sequence.  We already know there is a timing dependency in these somewhere based on the recent thread about the boot fix.

@ricardomenzer :  what class is your large card?
