@ Whim,

Thanks for you help.

I just downloaded the latest CHDK a495-100f. It is just past midnight Perth, Western Australia time; I will install and play around with the software in the morning.

I have plans to build a three camera motorised panorama array with the A495's. Purely for educational purposes and keep my brain active.

Goodnight from Perth; it is probably early morning in Europe, therfore good morning.

I'm looking for a camera which is capable (with CHDK) to shoot and zoom via the USB port.
Can I do these functions with the A495?

Hi

I changed my camera to auto-load chdk on start.

- how to change some settings for turning on camera without playback mode if I use ON/OFF button?
Now I have to use ON/OFF button and next use shutter button to change mode to make a pictures.

- how to disable auto-load chdk?

You should also be able to hold the power button down for slightly longer to have it start in record mode.

For technical reasons, there is no setting for this.
Don't forget what the H stands for.

I did not check that the addresses in boot.c for this were correct during the rapid 3 firmware version port / clean-up of a partial release of this camera.  It might not work.  It would be good to hear that holding down the On/Off button for two seconds starts the camera in "shooting mode".

UPDATE : for the 1.00f, looking at the routine at FFC42F30 the code in boot.c seems to be correct.

I can confirm that pressing the power button for 2 seconds does indeed boot into recording mode on the PowerShot A495 (firmware 1.00f).

Also if it is of interest, I've tried the extra long exposure time override yesterday (set to 256 s) and it worked as intended (by the way I managed to capture unintentionally a meteor path). Will do some other tests this evening for photographing star trails.

Sure you can, manual start does not require card to be locked, it only needs a valid PS.FI* on your card; however, the 'firmware update' option only appears if you start the camera directly into play mode, not if you're switching back from shoot to play mode.

hope that helps,

wim
