First of all thank you for porting CHDK to the A495.

After hrs and hrs of trying I have managed to run the a495-100e-0.9.9-1444-full_BETA on my A495. The strange thing is that the firmware version on my camera shows up as 1.00 only in EXIF info. Is this a completely different firmware? the only method I can get this to work is using the CardTricks software.

I tried the three versions one by one and only managed to see the CHDK logo in the 1.00e build. The firmware update method did not load CHDK. I hope this will help others who have the same firmware version as my camera.

@spiralbrain

Check the FAQ, the REAL firmware version can be determined in various ways. Canon chose to 'hide' this info in the MakerNotes.
To extract those manually from EXIF try exiftool:

   exiftool {full path to JPG} -MakerNotes:All

Hope that helps,

wim

@whim

Many thanks!! I used the tool, the Canon Firmware is: 1.00 and under Firmware Revision : 1.00 Rev 5.00 which is 1.00e. This solves the puzzle.

With this card, CHDK works great.

ricardomenzer - thank you for your persistence. I particularly followed your posts throughout this thread and realized my Transcend 4GB SDHC card simply would not work with CHDK. I did not want to research why or work arounds, so I went out and bought SanDisk 16GB micro->adapter and I'm good now. Thanks again.

I think I'm noticing a trend with some of the newer cards which might have something to do with the speed.  I'm wondering if the new "fast" class 10 cards startup so fast that it "breaks" the CHDK boot sequence.  We already know there is a timing dependency in these somewhere based on the recent thread about the boot fix.

@ricardomenzer :  what class is your large card?

I'm facing an issue with a class 10 card. I have an 8GB class 2 (sandisk) and an 8GB class 10 (Transcend). The class 2 works great with FAT32 partition and clicks shots, but when I used the class 10, it says "Memory card locked". Same build, same boot process and same camera.

Any ideas how we can get this to work ? I'm kind of stuck to click shots at a lower resolution to make the transfer faster, but I would really like to shoot at a better resolution.

If you are the owner of an A495 we need your help improving the manual focus / subject distance override capability of CHDK.

Please read the instructions posted here < Link to Testing Instructions > and test your camera.

TIA.
