what will the camera do when the memory leak wastes all of the memory like you were saying? will it just freeze the OS, automatically reboot or what? I've already gone out and bought and installed the Eye-Fi card. I'm just wondering when the camera will freeze up. It is an A490 btw. is it wasting internal memory or card memory?
The camera will probably shut down and not restart automatically. It might freeze, but in that case, the watchdog timer should shut it down shortly. However, running out of memory tends to break things, including error handling code, so it's hard to be sure, and it might not be the same every time.

As stated previously, the memory in question is system RAM, so periodic reboots would avoid the problem entirely.

Note that CHDK has not been ported to A490 yet.

edit:
Note that there are probably other limits which will affect really long run times, such as the tick counter wrapping around to negative (~24 days) or zero (~49 days), and who knows what else. Again, the design usage of these cameras involves uptimes of hours at most.

Don't forget what the H stands for.

well the Eye-Fi is set to auto-delete old images when the used card space reaches a certain percent so it won't end up with too many images. Only time will tell if it becomes an issue on this camera.

I've got the power adapter coming in the mail (so I don't have to keep swapping out rechargeable batteries) so the only issue left is removing the IR filter glass. It is most likely right in front of the CCD but I have no idea how I'm going to get to it. last time I tried on this model I couldn't get the front faceplate off, ended up breaking something, and had to put it back together and return it.
