i know i'm jumping the gun here as this camera is barely even released yet. But i'm super anxious to see chdk ported over to it. With what i've read it has a modified version of the s90 OS so i'm guessing it won't be too difficult to port over. I literally just got an lx3 from bh and the noticed that the lx5 and s95 were being released. So i'm returning the lx3. My main reason for going pana was the hd video. Now i see the lx5 has manual control over the hd video and i'm guessing the s95 will be all auto hd. Hopefully chdk can take care of that!

A port is no easier just because the previous model in a particular line was ported. For a given generation camera, they are all pretty much equal. There is no way of knowing how hard or easy it will be until someone has dumped the camera (if it can be dumped) and examined the firmware.

when the camera uses the same os or a slightly modifed version, ya it should be easy to port over. but thanks for ur comment anyways.

Every powershot since ~2007 has used a "slightly modified" version of the same OS. Models being in the same "family"  (e.g. sxNNN, aNNN) is pretty much irrelevant. For example, the sx200 and sx210 are in many ways more similar to other models released at the same time than they are to each other. In any case, the majority of the work has to be done from scratch for every camera model.

FWIW, I'm speaking from experience.
