Power Shot A490

Will there be support for the A490? It looks similar to the A480 which is supported.

It may look similar, but the A490 is one of the 2010-released cameras. Until a couple of weeks ago it was not possible to produce a firmware dump for any of the 2010 cameras - such a dump is a necessary first step in porting CHDK to a camera.

A new dumper has now been written and I think a dump of the A490 has been produced, but this is just the first step. Now someone who has the camera AND the time and skill to do the porting has to do the work. That could take some time (weeks probably, maybe months).

Actually, according to the Wiki, the A490 has not been dumped yet (I dumped the A495) so if you have the A490, it would be nice if you would make a firmware dump.

Oops, I misread the Wiki. Of course, you're right Frans. So dezza, could you make a firmware dump?

I tried to make a fw dump, but it failed. Only with the NewDryOS feature cardtrick, the camera shows a response: it did nothig... with the other options the camera starts in playmode.
the dumpfile is empty. i also tried to do it with the canon script language, but it doesn't work. also a "hello world"-script isn't running.

Are you sure the card is prepared properly ?

I would expect it to work on this camera, since it works on both newer and older models

Oh yeah - now something happened. I don't know why because in the first time i did exactly everything like now.
Now i could start the cbasic dumper and i got a file "primary.bin". i loaded it in cardtricks and generated a .txt  file.

It worked. The primary.bin is the actual dump. Upload it to a file hosting site and post a link.
