Practically speaking, no. Only canon official firmware updates can be used, and canon usually doesn't issue updates.

Edit:
If you are a programmer, adding support for a different firmware version of an already ported camera isn't terribly hard:

But, it works.

Incidentally, i use the CHD Files from the A2000 Pack - games work, textreader + fonts to.

mugger, I am glad to hear that. Actually I added the A2000 CHDK folder as well. Are you on v. 1.00d?
I guess, that 1.00b will just not work for me...

I tried CHDK for 1.00d on my 1.00C A3000IS

It didn't work :\

I guess I'll just wait for another version.

I will wait too. I am mostly interested in the RAW feature. ERR99 did you manage to solve the raw issues you wrote about before christmas?
I can only hope that it ends up with a version that supports 1.00b - 1.00d - thanks in advance!

Sigh... the a3000is firmware is 1.00B .. I can't start the chdk. it just goes blank after update firmware

Okay, i checked the 1.00b firmware dump, it differs from the 1.00d version in chdk related code parts, thats the reason why it crashes. So  a port for 1.00b is needed, the 1.00d can not work on 1.00b cameras. If i find the time, i will adapt the port for 1.00b.

Without firmware dump of 1.00c, there will be no port for this specific firmware version.
Can you dump this firmware and upload it?
