Is is possible to display the number of exposures on a Powershot? I don't trust the image file number count.

Yes, camera dependent.
Use the vers.req method --> http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/Ver.req#Q._How_can_I_get_the_original_firmware_version_number_of_my_camera.3F

I don't really understand.

I put the ver.req file on my memory card (it already was there). Started my cam in playback mode and pressed the func + disp buttons. The version was displayed as:

Canon PowerShot A540
P-ID:311B PAL

Firmware Ver GM1.00B
E18
Jan 31 2006 11:02:45

I also tried the CameraVersion tool and it displays a lot of interesting info. But not the total number of exposures.

Can you explain further what you meant?

vers.req - not ver.req !
