Help!!

I decided to have a look at CHDK for my A480 and formatted a 2GB SD card puting ver.req files and vers.req files on it to check the version of my software on the camera. Started the camera in display mode ie pressed the key with the right facing arrow on the camera. I then held down the function set key and pressed the same key arrow pointing right ......nothing. So I do not know where to go next!! I am reasonably computer savvy and have my sat nav now some 7 years old running the latest software, however I am completely stumped  as to why I cannot get the A480 to show what it should.
ANY help would be appreciated, I am obviously doing some thing wrong but I do not know what! :-[

According to this cameras wiki page http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/A480 you must press the DOWN arrow to get the version.
Don't forget what the H stands for.

since reyalp (as usual) types a lot faster than me, all that I can add is that the formulation is a
bit ambivalent on the page: you have to press and HOLD DOWN Func/set, then press DOWN.
Like Ctrl + C for copy on a PC

According to the page http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/A480 there is CHDK software for A480 version 1.00B so does that mean that there is no software for my A480 1.0.0.0?

Please advise, and thanks again for your help

1.0.0.0 is definitely NOT your firmware version. Why not download my ACID program. Then just take a picture with the camera and drop it on the Acid window and ACID will not only tell you what firmware version it is but also download the right build for you.

See http://www.zenoshrdlu.com/acid/acid.html

To run Java apps you need the "Java Runtime Environment" (JRE) from Sun, available from here: http://www.java.com/en/download/inc/windows_upgrade_xpi.jsp (free / at no charge)

Try this: in Windows Explorer, click right to the file "acid.jar", select "open with...", in the apps list there select the item "Java (TM) Platform SE binary"...
