anyway, what problem to release 'safe' "just for raw" chdk version?  :-[
As I explained before, If this problem exists as described, then there is no change that would make CHDK safe. There is no specific CHDK function that is known to cause the problem, so making a "raw only" version would not help.

personally i'm afraid now to use it. but i'm suffer without raw.
That is an entirely reasonable choice.

last night and tried to power cycle with and without CHDK and never had the lens error. It will be a failure of any series in particular?

there isnt any particular sequence for the lens error, most of the cases ive read about, were old equipment failure, dropped the camera while lens was out, or it was in a container got turned on and the lens got damaged from pushing on the container, also other cannon models, and even some other brands like Nikon can get the lens error

Hello!
I'm new in chdk and I want to ask when I put chdk on my card and I select to update my firmwire, that is not replacing my org. firmwire on my camera right? So only when I use the card I have the new firmwire?
Can anyone send a link to download the lastest chdk for sx130? I understand that is not a full version yet.
Another question, is there any possibility to have manual control over video mode(shutter/iris/iso)
Thanks for reading!
Cheers
Roland

whether i don't know the true, but if we analyse CHDK functions (increase exposure and apperture more than factory values, maybe possible to find some functions influencing for work of a lens), it is possible to make a conclusion that CHDK can influence lens work and therefore cause errors. and because i suggest to develop 'lite' version.

for those, who doubt that camera errors caused by chdk:

- camera error is appear at the day of chdk installation, work only in view mode. http://chdk.clan.su/forum/22-608-10521-16-1297881215
- two cases when camera work fine, but before chdk. (sudennly power off with open lens, etc). http://chdk.clan.su/forum/22-608-10531-16-1297917856, http://chdk.clan.su/forum/22-608-10551-16-1298107281

Yes, that is true.  CHDK does NOT replace the original firmware, and will only work from the memory card it is loaded on.

The latest version of CHDK for this camera can be found here->http://chdk.setepontos.com/index.php?topic=5691.msg61925#msg61925. (post #272) It is a full version, but is only in ALPHA (not quite ready for primetime).  If you would like to create your own, more current CHDK build, you can use CHDK-Shell together with the patch from Quid to compile a "more recent" version.  NOTE: AFAIK The later builds don't really add anything for this specific camera, but fix/correct/add things for other camera versions.

ok hidden everyone of the links posted are other cannon cameras who got the lens error however CHDK is not even mentioned which means either they were using it and didnt say so, or they werent using it now also i will admit these are all diffrent series not the SX130

everyone of those errors occured by some of the same sceanrios i have posted before, two, as mentioned if the problem is how cannon built the camera then even no CHDK at all you can get the error,

three, although quid said he was testing something when he got the lens error he never said what, for all we know what he could have been doing would be irrealvant to the lens, maybe he was trying to override the 10 min limit for HD video, or the 1hr limit for none hd video, maybe he was trying to add functions to his version of CHDK with out quid coming on and telling us his EXACT CHDK settings that he had before the lens error plus what scripts he was using

four quid also never said which CHDK build he was using he could been trying to fix earlier builds and some glitch occurred

it is fine that you want a lite version to prevent the lens error alright, its just we have NO way to know chdk caused the errors for sure unless we hook up equip to the camera and watch the code interact,

and the last thing even if a CHDK lite is made  you can still get the lens error under certain sceanrios so all  CHDK lite would do is elimate CHDK from the causes it does not reduce chances of the lens error

okay, okay, i'm just wanted to minimize risk.

if there will be 'lite' version, i the first who will install it.
all that i want to say that is piece of code, that allow to get raw and use bracketing - is well-known and, i assume, more or less universal to all digic-4 cameras, exept sx130-specific lens operations.

anyway, i perfectly understand that all it at own risk.

1) If you don't use those features, they aren't used. So if you think aperture override is a threat, don't use aperture override.
2) The alleged cause of the problem is the camera crashing with the lens out, not CHDK taking some particular action with the lens. The only way to avoid this would be to make a version of CHDK that doesn't crash. This is always the goal, but not likely to be achieved.

version with only raw (and maybe exposure bracketing) will never crash!

version, with only raw (and maybe exposure bracketing) will never crash!!!
You don't understand. There is no such thing as "only" raw. You need to a bunch of code to just run CHDK. If you start hacking it up to make your "light" version, you will inevitably create bugs in the process, so in the short term you are likely to have more crashes.

But what do I know, I'm just a developer.

The code is available, if you think you can make a version that is safer, have at it.
