There is almost nothing to be afraid, although you have to always remember, that always there is some risk.

You'll need well charged bateries to be sure, that update process will be not interrupted.

Updating may take some time, in example 1,2 or 5 minutes, don't afraid, don't panic, leave camera and give it time to do all the things.

And again - read carefully the manual. If you're not good in english maybe ask somebody for help, here (probably) you'll recieve only help in english. I could describe all process in polish, if you're interested in. I could try in russian.

Langkah 1. Ekstrak Data Update Firmware
Klik dua kali data update firmware (file terkompresi) yang di-download dari situs Web untuk mengekstrak itu.
Jika file tersebut sudah diekstrak, tidak perlu mengekstrak lagi.

Langkah 2. Menyiapkan Kartu Memori untuk Update Firmware
Mulai UploadFirmware transfer perangkat lunak yang disertakan dalam folder diekstraksi.

Setelah file diekstrak, folder (atau drive, untuk Mac OS X) yang berisi file yang dibutuhkan untuk pembaruan akan dibuat. Folder (Drive) Nama: CanonCamera_f

(2) Tekan tombol MENU untuk menampilkan Menu Playback pada monitor LCD. (3) Tekan ke atas / bawah tombol, pilih item Kantor menu Update, dan kemudian tekan tombol SET.
Jika pembaruan telah selesai, Diperbarui sudah akan ditampilkan.

(3) Tekan ke atas / bawah tombol, kemudian pilih menu item [Firm Update ...].
Jika [Firm Update ...] tidak menampilkan, ulangi prosedur mulai Langkah 2. Jika masalah masih berlanjut, silahkan hubungi pusat layanan kami.

(4) Tekan tombol SET untuk menampilkan versi layar konfirmasi perubahan.
Jika pembaruan telah selesai, Update sudah ditampilkan.

Pada titik ini, proses penyempurnaan Firmware Update. Setelah menegaskan bahwa firmware telah diperbarui, menginisialisasi kartu memori. Selain itu, hapus dari komputer Anda file-file yang digunakan untuk update firmware.

(5) Tekan tombol kiri / kanan untuk memilih OK. (6) Tekan tombol SET dan kamera akan mulai update firmware.
Setelah update dimulai, pesan "Memperbarui sekarang! Jangan menghidupkan power off!" akan muncul pada monitor LCD, dan kemudian indikator akan menyala dan berkedip.

8GB card can't be bootable in simple way. The bootable partition must be FAT16, which means it must be no greater than 4GB. You have to make two partitions on your SD. See:

btw, the game Reversi does not have grid lines to show which square your on, version 1.01d

Version 1.01c has the same. I guess it's not becouse of CHDK but the game code itself - lines are not implemented. Probably nobody finds it important;p

hey.. bought a new sx130is two days back.. its my very first camera apart from the phone cameras.. so started playing with the manual controls... and my search led me straight to chdk..  so is it still in test phase or is a stable version available??? i bought the camera with my savings. so cant afford to damage it. pls respond....

Well... The officially it's still in alpha stage. Nevertheless a lot of people use this camera with CHDK with no problems. We could call this port 'beta' or even 'stable', but there are some conditions that couses developers to call in still alpha.

The most important thing is that several people get E18-'lens error'. This means that somethings happens with harware, that couses damage. A few of these people were using CHDK (including important developer of this port - Quid).

Nevertheless, some people that has E18 problem have never used CHDK (probably they never heard of).

E18 error is very common on Canon cameras, so maybe there is some hardware fault in this model.

So - now we have a problem - is there a possibility that CHDK couses E18? It looks unlikely, couse it was never seen before in normal usage (not like hard-hacking source code or doing strange things on memory adreses and so on).

You have a choice - do you like to take your chance and try CHDK or not? There is always some risk, it's just a hack, you are using CHDK on your own risk.

If get E18 (not important - with or without CHDK) Canon service should repair it under warranty. Of course if it's not coused by camera's throwing, sitting on lens or burying camera in the sand;p
