my firmware version as it turns out is 1.01d.. so can u direct me to the correct version of chdk... also pls tell  me if it is stable or still in early stages.. tried reading the whole thread... but it is too lengthy...

In the the posts immediately above yours concern the possibility that CHDK caused the destruction of several of these cameras. This is far from certain, but unless you are willing to fully accept that possibility, you should not use this port.

It is up to you to evaluate the risks and decide whether it is worth it. If you are unwilling or unable to read and understand the preceding posts, you won't be in a position to evaluate the risks. Don't ask us to do this for you, it's your choice.

Everything is moved up 16 bytes somewhere after address 0xffb00000.
Why and what this fixes I have no idea; but a simple change like this makes it easier to port.
The address differences start in sub_FFB21984, the 101d version is 20 bytes shorter then the corresponding function in 101c. It's not immediately obvious to me what the changes do, or what this area of the firmware does.

edit:
I think this is associated with ImageHeader.c (via sub_FFA86844) so seems unlikely to be related to our speculated crash lens death.

i did read most of the posts.. saw all the problems that could arise by using the alpha version... i just wanted to know if i will void the warranty by using this mod, in a case where the camera is damged by e18 error or something worse... just bought it a week ago.... thats all...

There is nothing specific to "alpha" status in this case. If the problem exists, it doesn't care what we call our builds.

Only Canon can decide what voids their warranty, but common sense would say that if CHDK can actually damage your camera, running it would void your warranty. See also: http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/FAQ#Q._Does_using_the_CHDK_program_void_your_warranty.3F

Note that the answers suggesting that it doesn't void your warranty generally rest on the assumption that it can't actually make permanent changes. If it damages your camera, that's a permanent change, so the assumption would obviously be wrong in that case.

For what it's worth, I think the burden of proof should be on Canon to show that CHDK caused the permanent change (damage).

Personally I suspect that if you take your camera to servicing without the memory card in (which makes perfect sense since your images might be on it) and just... neglect to relay information about ever using CHDK on the camera, they'd most likely just fix the camera no questions asked than spend the time and effort to check through every camera's internal log for whether CHDK has been used or not. If they do that, they would have to make it a standard procedure for their camera repairers to first check for signs of CHDK use in the camera logs, and that would likely cost them more in work-hours than just repairing the cameras.

Even if they be some chance discover CHDK has been used, they should have some factual basis that CHDK has in fact been causing the damage. Without proof, they shouldn't be able to void the warranty, but like I said, better minimize the risk by never bringing CHDK up.

Usually the "self-caused damage" clause in warranty terms refers to mechanical damage, like a busted lens from dropping the camera.

Don't quote me on this, though.

Small offtopic.

I wrote small text editor for CHDK that was tried on my SX130IS. It's described here:
http://chdk.setepontos.com/index.php?topic=6465.0

I have a question - I found somewhere, that script should not be greater than 8kB becouse of memory limitations. My has around 11kB and requires a library that has around 3.6 kB. This text editor can open itself, which means it has keep next 11 kB in variables. This gives around 25 kB And it doesn't crash.

So - is the information about 8kB limit obsolete, or just SX130IS has more free memory and can handle bigger scripts?
if (2*b || !2*b) {
    cout<<question
}

Compile error: poor Yorick

This is outdated. Long ago, scripts were limited to 8k. Now they are limited only by available memory. If you find references to this limit in the wiki, please feel free to remove them.

@outslider - Very cool.  Keep up the good work.

I'm glad you posted the link here, because I might not have found it otherwise!

I wish the unfocused edges of miniature mode would go away, and the 10 minute max HD video limit to go away.  Why would Canon have a 10 minute limit?  I dont think other cameras are limited.

But I bet it would be very difficult to deciper the firmware and write the code.

How is it I can log into this blog at work, but not on my Two PCs or laptop at home?  Keep getting an internet timeout error....

Hi, I've just stumbled upon this site randomly and I'm using sx130IS GM1.01c. I'm used to flashing different roms to my phone but hacking a camera is very new to me. I'm afraid to try (unlike mobile phones, which everything is almost at solid state, cameras have a lot of precision moving parts :() this but I will read through this thread thoroughly first. Just want to cheer you guys for all the effort in porting CHDK to the sx130IS.

Edit:
OMG, the curious side of me couldn't wait to try it out, so I did! So far I'm struggling with options overload and I need to do more reading. But everything looks good so far. I can't enable RAW output, I don't know how :). The only problem I'm having is my battery, it gets really hot and I'm imagining it's draining fairly quickly. But no biggie. I'll just buy another 10 eneloops when all goes well. Kudos to all devs!
