hi to all community. i just joined to say a THANK YOU! i use CHDK since yesterday and im really really happy. it's like a have a brand new digital camera in my hands. i like my sx130 even more now!
and just want to share with you a raw developing path in order to open sx130's .DNG raw files in adobe lightroom. (lightroom doesnt support canon's .DNG files)
1. download irfanview (free) and install. Before you open .DNG files with irfanview you need to tweak its default option to load raws by half size. Go to OPTIONS/PROPERTIES->PLUGINS and uncheck ''load half size'' image option. hit ''ok'' and you are ready
2. open .dng file with irfanview. you now have the ability to edit its colours but i advice you to do this in lightroom because colour options are far far more.
3. Go to file-save as choose a name for your file and select .TIF in file types. irfanview will convert the .dng file to .tif and then lightroom will load it
.
If you want to convert more than one .dng at a time you dont have to open and save each one by itself. open irfanview and use batch convert option.
4. In lightroom in 6 steps.
-Fix white balance first before any colour tweak! Choose custom white balance and select a grey area of your image. This way white balance is fixed. You can tweak it though if it doesnt match your expectations
-Then Fix colouring. Add saturation. Add the clarity and vibrance amount you like. This is where you add your creativity
-Go to noise reduction tab. I choose to add +60 normal noise reduction and +20 colour reduction. then add only a few detail (not a lot because it brings some of the noise back!!!)
-Go to lens correction. Go to first bar and add a +amount of lens correction (for sx130 there is no ready profile) till you see that image alignment distortion is corrected. This is easy just play with amount and you will find the spot. Then check ''crop'' just under lens correction bar to crop automatically the image.
-Only now make the final sharpenning! Go to sharpening bar and add about +15. dont add to muchs because noise will be back.
-Export as jpeg!and you are happy!!!!
Of course you can use the above lightroom develop path and colour tweak to a free editing software like gimp but im not sure if lens correction tweak is available.
The jpeg you created from this raw develop procedure will be far more superior detailed noisefree by the ones the camera software produces. try it and compare the results with direct jpegs from your camera...
You can always tweak the above according to what you want. i just shared with you the develop path i use.
Hope i helped some of you. English not my native language so excuse me for some mistakes. Hope you are all ok
