@backlash - Yes (I think), using overrides you can.  The changes you make will not be reflected in the EXIF info, but if it works, you will be able to see the difference in the images.

Unlikely, IMHO ... considering that 3.4 is the absolute largest aperture for this camera.
How can you open a door any wider, if it is already fully open ?
And, if this were possible in software, why would Canon voluntarily harm the competitiveness
of one of it's cameras by not implementing it ?

cheers,

Thanks for the clarification whim.

Yes, I wasn't clear in saying that you can not do things that your camera hardware won't support.  You CAN override Aperture in situations where the camera limits you.

I'm guessing long periods of chdk time lapse is more wear and tear on a shutter than the same length in movie mode?  Have not found much info on this topic.  Does movie mode open and shut the shutter?  It must.  I did read that a P&S shutter is mechanical, not all electronic.  I've done lots (20 hrs) of 1 second chdk time lapse on a Canon S2, and finally broke it (began taking mostly over exposed pictures no matter what mode it was in).  Don't know if chdk caused this or not.  I like time lapse 1 second intervals rather than 30 fps which takes up a whole lot more storage.  Anyone out there taken gobs of time lapse photos with no ill effects?  Thinking I'll use my old a650 for time lapse and my sx130 for smaller jobs....

Very likely.

I don't think movie or live view use the mechanical shutter. You'd hear it ;)

True, there is a mechanical shutter, but that doesn't mean it is used all the time. Some related discussion here http://chdk.setepontos.com/index.php?topic=6377.0

the lowest f number is 5.6 or something at 12x.

That means the aperture is wide open when the optical elements are in the telephoto configuration.
In other words, compared to wide angle, the lens elements have moved.
Aperture is not simply a fixed-size hole.

No.

Hello guys!
I just bought SX130 and suddenly it has firmware version GM1.01F (build 13 Apr).
CHDK builds for GM1.01C and GM1.01D firmwares don't work, as expected.

So I read some threads and instructions and made a GM1.01F firmware dump.
It can be downloaded here:
http://tmp.avr.net.ru/PRIMARY.BIN

I hope that porting CHDK for GM1.01F firmware would be not more difficult than it
was for GM1.01D.

And thank you for all that stuff, that you are doing!
