I wish to click Star Trails using my Canon SX130IS. I've installed CHDK but am facing some issues like below:

1) CHDK settings are punched in the camera while the lens/sensor is off. Once the settings are punched one needs to push the "Click" button to start the camera working as per the settings entered in chdk.

When shooting star trails generally an object is kept in foreground and I doubt that the focus will be on this object instead of the stars due to the DOF issue.

2) When taking pictures using slow shutter speeds, equal time is taken in processing the image. Hence a 1 minute shot becomes a 2 minute shot. During the 1 minute when the camera is processing the image, earth rotates a bit and hence when the camera captures another 1 minute shot the stars are in different position. Due to this the star trails aren't continuous but interrupted.

In DSLR cameras there is an option called "Long Exposure Noise Cancellation" which when selected, the camera doesn't process the image for long time and hence the next image is captured almost from where the previous image was left.

Any ideas to overcome these problems?

??? I don't understand this at all.

Use focus at infinity mode or MF (if your camera has it), or  CHDK subject distance override.

This is the canon firmware doing a dark frame after the real exposure. You can force this on or off in CHDK overrides http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/CHDK_User_Manual#Dark_Frame_Subtraction or by using the (poorly named) set_raw_nr script function http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/CHDK_scripting#set_raw_nr
Don't forget what the H stands for.

Hi for all! There's some way to script this functions in record mode?
Record by 30 seconds and zoom in, wait 30 seconds and zoom out and finish record.
I don't found the parameters script  this.

I just want to jump in for a second and give a big THANK YOU to all of the good people who have made it possible for me to use CHDK on my sx130is.  I am new at this but I am loving the learning process... it has given my life new meaning and I am thrilled.  Thank you so much!

Seems you really have ol 100a firmware. Canon has released a firmware update for SX130is over year ago.

http://web.canon.jp/imaging/dcp/firm-e/pssx130is/index.html

Folow the Canon instructions. Read carefully before use!
I did the update on my 100b. And it will stay 100b.
No chance to get 100c or the other two?
UPDATE: I FORGOT STEP 2-see next message-
Sorry guys.

updating from here
http://web.canon.jp/imaging/dcp/firm-e/pssx130is/index.html
clicking "i agree"  will lead you to instructions pdf.
use an empty card, do the procedures.
1. step-downloading the files onto the card
2. do the update in canon-menue.
3. delete the update-files on pc.

my 100b will be 101.b- I am relieved!
CameraVersion v1.3 says 101

hi to all. after a lot time back to here. to thank the people who try ane evolve this firmware.
i just never use my sx130 without chdk anymore.
i cant imagine my self without the reduced bitrate in video (omg canon...seriously next try to reach 1minute hd video=1gb...)
i just cant imagine my self without low iso=50 feature that significantly reduces noise on long exposures against camera's factory lowest iso=80.

i enjoy intervalometer scripts.
i think that especially in sx130 chdk gave so so much +++. i think that chdk in sx130 in a a strange somewhat magic way managed to improve a medioce hardware and a make a camera be better, not just do more things than it already could.

anyway. if someone can answer. i have a question as well. what scripts do you use for your sx130.
and is there any way to update to a latest version without losing personal settings colours preferences ets?

anyway. thank you all for everything.

Color preferences and other setup values are stored in a setup file on your SD card.  The name of the file depends on the trunk version of CHDK you are using :
  1.0.0 =>  CCHDK.CFG      ( archived version )
  1.1.0 =>  CCHDK2.CFG    ( current stable version as of June 2013 )
  1.2.0 =>  CCHDK3.CFG    ( current development version as of June 2013)
If you copy this file from the CHDK directory on your SD card to your computer, you can reload it in the CHDK directory on your SD card to restore it.

In addition,  if you simply load a new release level of the current trunk revision, the existing configuration file will be used as it is not overwritten.

Converting between major versions ( 1.1.0 to 1.2.0 ) requires resetting all the configuration values.  It would be fairly easy for some one to write a "translator" but nobody has gotten around to it.

This script can help if you set it up with your preferences :  http://chdk.setepontos.com/index.php?topic=10126

Re: Chdk for SX130 IS ?After start replay instead of play
« Reply #1069 on: 02 / July / 2013, 09:49:55 »
I have almost newest Chdk for my updated 101d. When starting it will always immediately go to replay. touching the shutter-button to go to play. When zero images are there it says "no images". Could this be when for first shootingno write protection was set? Thanks a lot.
