I'm not getting any good thunderstorms this year so I haven't been able to experiment much with daytime lightning which is harder to capture. I only got 2 shots & one of those wasn't worth keeping. Your daytime shot is similar to what I captured as far as exposure is concerned.

I recently got an ND8x filter hoping to help with the daytime lightning shots (& waterfalls) but haven't had a thunderstorm since I received it.

I was going to experiment with setting the CHDK shutterspeed & aperture to get an underexposed shot. And set the camera TV & AV to make the scene really dark in hopes of triggering the script better when lightning flashed. But I haven't had a chance to try this yet.

Just got my first Sears Tower... err... Willis Tower strike two nights ago.  I've been trying to get this shot for a few years now.  Deepest thanks to fudgey, BarneyFive's MD Lightning6 script, and MLuna's Motion Detect scripts!  Worked great on my SD750!

Thanks, guys!  I no longer have to sit out on my balcony for hours with my old Canon 20D!   :D

Thanks!  Fits nicely into my Skyline Views portfolio.  I'm going for the whole Monet Haystacks thing and plan to touch up and put together a coffee table book one of these days.

Here's another lightning photo I got during the last storm. I think it came out better than the ones before. It was way too bright, though, and washed out the whole photo, so I had to adjust the levels to make the bolts show better. Here's the link: IMG_5964

(I wonder if that was the last big thunderstorm of the summer...)

I use the chdk on my SX230 and SD1100 cameras, and I installed them using a Macbook, currently running 10.6.8.

Nice shot! I'll have to do a little touching up on mine when I get a chance.

Thanks for sharing!

I like the worked one. Is that steam or what around the lightening ?
Seems to be awfully close too ?
Cheers

I'm not 100% sure. There are a few possibilities. One is that it IS steam, since there is a little pipe coming out of my building to the side of the photo frame, that does often send puffs of steam out in that direction. So it could be steam in front of the lightning. I'm suspicious, however, at how perfectly its lined up with the lightning. Another possibility is that its clouds of some sort, farther away from my window and closer to the lightning. And the last possibility, I think, is that its just spots where the amount of light from the lightning was so bright that the camera didn't get any other detail, like they were just big bright highlights of whiteness in the photo (not sure of the terminology I'm using there, but you see what I mean).
