S90 - shows CHDK is loaded but won't actually boot?

Hello, I am a new new newbie and am still having trouble getting CHDK to boot properly on my Canon S90.

I am using a Mac and followed all the instructions including the "still having trouble" link.

When I insert my SD card in the "locked" position, an orange screen briefly appears with the following:
CHDK -RAW
CHDK Firmware 0.9.9-953
camera S90-101a

Then the orange screen disappears and I see the typical Canon interface with "no image". Also, my lens will no longer open and the camera is stuck in "play" mode, regardless of the positioning on the top dial.

Any ideas? It seems to boot into CHDK but won't let me operate it/use it?

Hold down the power button while starting CHDK, or half press the shutter to switch to record mode.
