Display shutdown and menu in A590

I have two problems with SDM and my A590s (both cameras are 101b). When I use SDM, the power saving automatic display shutdown doesn't work. The second problem is in normal shooting mode - I can't enter to camera menu. Camera doesn't react on pressing menu button. In ALT mode - the menu button opens SDM menu.
When I run camera without SDM, I can enter menu without any problem, and display automaticaly shuts down as set in power saving submenu.
Anyone has the same problem? Is it bug or feature of SDM? :)

I menu Advanced\Miscellaneous, is 'Disable LCD off' set to 'No' ?

It is a feature  :)

The problem is, if you have used some feature (such as edge overlay, inverted or stereo playback) that requires a large amount of memory to be reserved, when you try to enable the Canon menu it wants some memory and that can cause some cameras to crash.

It may well be that most cameras will be OK but without testing them all the safest option is to disable MENU.

In menu Stereo\Edge Overlay, try 'Free internal memory'

MENU should then work.

It was set to Alt. I have changed it to No as you had said. And now, after camera goes into power saving mode, the only one way to wake it up is ... rotating it! :) or press shutter button, which also makes photo then. Any other button doesn't work. When SDM is unloaded, you can wake camera pressing any button.

Something strange does, when USB remote is plugged in, and camera goes into power saving mode. When I press the remote button, the camera wakes up and the focusing is done. After pressing and releasing it again, the photo is taken. After that, the display starts to blink. Not whole display, but SDM header only. All other display element, such as WB setting, aperture and shutter values etc, are disappearing. Im confused whats going on :)

I have no idea, I have never heard of anyone using SDM this way.

Why do you want the camera to go into power-saving mode ?

What exactly are you trying to do ?

Just for saving batteries. No other reason :)

And the "blinking problem" happened, when I wanted to check, if it is possible to wake up the camera with remote switch.

Re: Display shutdown and menu in A590- Which batteries?

Which batteries do you use? I would use only eneloops or similar ones like sony cycle energy and the right charger. I am using AV4m from www.accu-select.de special version of this charger.  no problems anymore. i would buy the colored batteries also from him. they are custom controlled. dont forget the containers. check also the adapters for other battery-types than AA.
