an intervalometer or a motion detection/lightening like script with getting and setting the focus and locking it and firing flash while taking shots. there are bits and pieces of such a script here and there, can anyone come up with a simple scipt

See if this single uBasic command does what you want :-

You can lock on the first exposure or autofocus on all exposures using the auto_focus_first  and auto_focus_all commands :-
