Does CHDK have more features for A570 or A720?

I am new to CHDK, and I had no intention of buying a Canon until I read about CHDK. Now I am trying to decide between a A570 and A720. My main needs are: high speed shutter, lightening shot scripts, intervalometer, 3d Stereo photos, USB remote.
Any advice on which camera to buy in order to get the most out of CHDK?

Can both do USB remote capture? I thought I read that the A720 did not have that ability through the Canon software, so I wasn't sure about CHDK. Also, can either camera be awakened through the USB port? That way you could have a separate PIC controller wake up the unit, and your script could take the picture, and then then turn it off again. This way you could preserve the battery for long time lapse sequences (several days) without an AC Adapter.

The a570is doesn't support remote capture.

USB shutter works (I believe someone said it does on most models now; at least on a570is it does) thanks to CHDK, but (at least not currently) there's no way to download the pictures out of the camera automatically.

From fingalo's posts I've understood that USB wake-up is indeed possible, but I haven't tried it and don't know if it's possible in current builds nor if it works on any model which works with the CHDK USB remote.

StereoData Maker (SDM) allows synchronised shooting with both the above cameras (though A720 is not officially released yet).

A570 mis-synch is 1/2000 sec, A720 mis-synch is 1/4000 sec.

A720 has longer zoom range.

You can use cameras internal flash and there are no double shadows as one flash is dimmed.

In the near future, a commercial unit will be available for triggering external flash or you can make your own (details on website).

In future, various features triggered by an external micro-controller may be available.

Fudgey,
remote button wake is easy to test. Just connect your remote button and push (or connect the cam usb cable) when the camera is off. If that cam support wakeup it will... wake up. It is actually is not a CHDK function, it is canon's own usb function, turning on the camera when you connect the usb cable to your pc. Then CHDK kick in and run the remote script if script autoload is enabled etc.

Ah, thanks fingalo, that clears things up quite a bit

I couldn't get my a570is (1.00e) to start up by plugging the usb cable. I tried in play mode and in rec mode in M/P/AUTO shooting modes just in case they had anything to do with this but nothing worked. Also, gphoto2 can't connect to the camera via USB until I power the camera on myself and lsusb (on Linux) won't list the camera until it's powered on either. I didn't test with an external power supply connected, but I'm guessing it wouldn't help.

The a570is doesn't support remote capture, maybe the USB startup feature is linked to it in Canon's typical feature list?

Anyway, it's possible to switch the camera on using a solenoid or some other mechanical actuator, without having to take the camera apart. That's quite kludgy, of course.
