Making resized RAW images for HDR timelapse

Hi,
In the summer I've made some timelapses of development of tunderstorm clouds and now thinking about making them a bit more interesting. Shooting them in HDR would show much more detail and would add much dramatic effect, but when I shoot the timelapse in raw, the timelapse script always shoot in full resolution, which eats my (1 GB small) storage fast, and the Luminance HDR proggy that I use cannot resize the raw files in batch mode.

The sollution would be an intervalometer script able to shoot small (1200*1600px) raw images. Is this possible, or the raw has per definitionem the resolution the CCD chip? I also want to get rid of the jpgs during making hdr timelapses, is it possible?

Thans

Hello & welcome, KGyST !

The CHDK RAW files are always full sensor data dumps, with the sensor's full resolution.

It is possible to delete images/files within a Lua script.

If you don't need the JPEG images, i suggest to set the smalles resolution (e.g.640x480) and the lowest quality from the canon menu to reduce the file size...

With a modest amount of hacking, you could save only part of the raw (effectively, digital zoom). Vertical cropping only would be easier and faster. You'd also have to hack some tools to process them, or hack the DNG code for the lower resolution.

High ISO mode on many newer cameras also shoots lower resolution. Changing the CHDK code to only save the valid portion in this case should also be possible.
Don't forget what the H stands for.

Is it possible to make the DNG resized in the Camera? It would have the same effect.

That would be more work than the other things I suggested, and would be very slow.
