SX20IS - Freeze on card lock

All,
Had success on my old SX1 but seem to be having challenges with my new SX20IS.

After installing CHDK,, if the card is unlocked it boots normally but without CHDK. If I lock the card to run CHDK, the camera won't start at all. Black screen etc. It requires a power cycle (battery removal) to restart and even then it only works with the card unlocked.

I've installed both B and D builds, full and small on two different cards (one 512mb, one 4gb) and the same thing happens.

Any ideas?

You need to find out what the canon firmware version of your camera is.

Then you need the 102B build, no point in trying any others.

The symptom certainly sounds like you are trying to run the wrong version. Without knowing which specific builds you tried, we cannot help you figure out if this is the cause.

The two versions I've tried to load are:
sx20-102b-0.9.9-938
and
sx20-102b-0.9.9-938-full

Same problem on both.

Process is:
512 mb card using cardtricks
Format card (FAT)
click "make bootable"
then CHDK-> card

Files are on the card in explorer

if card unlocked, normal boot.
If card locked, frozen requiring battery removal

Quite strange. I guess it's possible the current autobuilds are broken. You might want to look through the sx20 development thread http://chdk.setepontos.com/index.php/topic,4348.930.html and ask there if you don't find an answer.

Nope - apparently a stupid user issue. Not sure what I was doing wrong but in desperation I did another format and load and it worked flawlessly.

Huh. Guess thats what the "H" is about...

Anyway, thanks for the help.

Hello,
I have the SX20 IS version GM1-02C so downloaded the upgrade version SX20-102d now o used Cardtrick.

As said using cardtrick and a card reader i
Formatted
made bootable
copied the files over (using cardtrick)
locked the card
put in camera and
- for a brief second i get he CDDK screen then it goes and i get No Images and disk locked.
Any ideas i have tried it a dozen times and read the idiot sheet how can i do it wrong i used cardtrick
format, bootable, copy files and lock disk yet it will not load ??
