CHDK cameras can be used for both planetary and deep-sky photography, and even for timing occultations (like eclipses). Kindly post your results here. Thanks!

Here's my best moon, close up and M42 (Orion nebula). All taken with my a710is linked to 400m refractor (Skywatcher). CHDK essential for ability to program number of shots in each session (i.e. all images are stack of approx. 10-30 shots to reduce atmospheric disturbance and remove noise).

Thanks for looking,

Nick

Hi, I've just installed CHDK (Small) on my SX200IS in order to do some astrophotography but would like to know what scripts and procedures are recommended for that purpose.  For the SX200IS, CHDK gives me the RAW output capability and a range of exposure times beyond the standard 15s limit (I've been testing at 64s - TV64 on the OSD).  I'd like to be able to shoot a specified (or unlimited) sequence of long-exposures (15s for the camera just mounted on a tripod here on vacation) up to 2min or more if I mount the camera on the Vixen SXD mount that holds my telescope/CCD camera that I use normally for AP (with auto-guiding using my scope or just 'unguided' which means using the SXD guiding which is pretty good up to 2min or so).  I'd separately collect dark frames and do the processing with my normal AP software.
I've noticed a bunch of scripts, in particular, lapse.lua, but since they seem to use the Canon standard exposure times, I'm wondering if they will work with the TV overrides from CHDSK, or override the overrides.
Thanks for any inputs you can give on this.
-Jeff

Image of the orion nebula taken using S3IS running chdk to achieve 120 seconds exposure :) Tracking is unguided. Thanks!

That's beautiful Etena, particularly the different colours you managed to capture. Thanks for sharing!

Nice hi-res close up image of the moon! keep posting your results Nick, CHDK is indeed a powerful tool in astrophotography. Clear skies :)

Could you give us some clues, how to set camera and telescope (or binocular etc) wihout using commercial adaptors? Is it possible? How to set focus? How to calibrate ameras lenses and telescope lenses?
