I have figured out that this only happens when I select to "Force manual flash".
Using the camera without chdk works fine. Resetting chdk works fine. Set this one setting and the camera becomes a 1 flash wonder. It flashes and then says "Change the Batteries" even when externally powered. It does not matter what power setting I use.

My 102c camera has no such trouble while using the latest 1.4 release.

Thanks for the replies guys. I am using the camera for a specialist app and am no longer worried about this. I just turn off the manual flash.

I thought I would post back for the benefit of anyone with a similar issue.
It might save someone some time trying to figure it out.

I will try the latest version at some point.

Just an update.

I updated to 1.3.0 and it still does it. This is a A470 firmware 101b.
