Please Recommend a (used) camera for CHDK

I have a great SD780 with a firmware that will not work with CHDK (so sad).....so I need to get another camera that will:

Utilize the remote cable function in CHDK. (Not sure if all cameras with CHDK will allow remote cable shutter actuation)
Almost certainly have firmware compatible with CHDK (I'll probably buy used as I have a camera I like already) - not sure how possible this is. Possibly a camera is no longer manufacturing (no new firmware versions) where the great developers have created CHDK versions for all the existing firmware versions.

Ideally the camera will also.....

Provide 7+/- MP
Be rather small/compact in size
FYI - camera will be used for outdoor photos in sunlight

Any suggestions on which camera might be my best buy/bet?

Let me clarify my search for a camera....

Given I have a perfectly fine SD780 (with firmware 1.00a - CHDK does not work on this version), I'm searching for a camera (preferably used) that will have or very likely have firmware compatible with CHDK. The challenge is, whether new or used, it requires the seller to identify the firmware (or allow me to) - not particularly likely or easy.

However, I'm guessing there are some cameras that more likely compatible with CHDK than others - i.e. fewer firmware versions and more CHDK versions. Ideally, the Wiki would include the known firmware versions, not just the firmware versions compatible with CHDK. The thought/hope - there may be a camera or two with only one firmware version...and a corresponding CHDK....making an Ebay purchase easy. If anyone know of a camera with only one firmware versions (and a CHDK) or multiple versions of firmware with corresponding compatible CHDKs - please drop me a note. Thanks

As a general rule, the older the camera, the more likely it is that all firmware versions have been discovered and ported. There is unfortunately no way of knowing for sure that a given camera won't turn out to have a previously unknown firmware version. Canon doesn't publish the required information.

However it's not that difficult to determine the firmware version of a given camera. All you need is a picture taken with it. For a new camera in a shop you can just take a card with you and ask if you can take a picture. If buying second hand then the seller will no doubt be able to supply you with one.

Then all you need to do is download my ACID program (http://www.zenoshrdlu.com/acid/acid.html)and drop the jpeg on it. ACID runs on Macs and PCs.

Thanks zeno. I was just checking ACID out the other day - very, very nice. This is how I confirmed my SC780 had the wrong firmware. Its a fantastic program....huge thanks from all the users of ACID!!
