RAW to DNG on camera

Somewhere I read that it was possible to convert RAW to DNG on the camera. It wasn't mentioned how to do it and I couldn't find it anywhere.

Shooting to DNG takes longer then shooting to RAW, so I prefer shooting to RAW and later on just run a script to convert everything to DNG. I prefer to do it on the camera because then I don't depend on tools that aren't available on the computer I'm working on. And since CHDK shoots in raw and converts it to DNG before saving (if I'm right), the functionality is already there. Isn't it.?

So how do I use that functionality to convert all .CRWs to .DNGs?

I'm using a SX10IS.

You can't currently do this.

The meta data that is saved in the DNG isn't available in CHDK raw (CHDK raw contains no metadata at all)

It would be possible to write this to another file, or get it from the jpeg like DNG4PS2. Or (my favorite) write an almost DNG without reversing the bytes, which would be as fast as CHDK raw, but trivial to convert to DNG.
Don't forget what the H stands for.

Isn't the functionality avalaible to read the metadata from the jpg? I'm not into scriptwriting yet, but couldn't a script read the metadata from the jpg and convert the CRW in DNG?

It is already fantastic that I can shoot in RAW and DNG, but it should be great if you can shoot in RAW as fast as possible and later on postprocess to DNG on the camera itself. I don't know the code, but if it isn't possible yet to do it from script, it shouldn't take to much effort to make that possible. Much less effort than it was to make shooting in DNG possible or RAW or almost anything that is already in CHDK. But I think it would be a great enhancement.

This is exactly what (outside the camera ;) ) the DNG4PS-2 utility does...

And that is exactly what I want INSIDE the camera. Since CHDK already does the conversion when you you to do it immediatly an external program shouldn't be needed when you prefer to do that step later. I want to be that step independent of the computer.
Maybe I'm working on a computer where I can't start my own executables. So putting DNG4PS-2 on the SD card so it's avalailable anywhere isn't sufficient.

I hope this functionality will be available sometime. As for now every question about this (I read former posts about this) is answered with DNG4PS-2, which actually isn't the answer.

CHDK doesn't read metadata from the JPEG to put it in a DNG. CHDK takes DNG metadata it from various places that are only available during the shooting process and then it's gone. So basically the code to do that afterwards from the JPEG does not readily exist except for the color matrix (which by itself doesn't give you camera white balance).

As fudgey said, integrated DNG use current exif data and pure sensor RAW data.

DNG4PS2 add JPG exif data and some copyright user text, plus RAW data post-processed with color calibration matrix.

Therefore, the integrated DNG do not contains copyright user text and no color calibration. this color calibration shall be done within your Lightroom-style software. (there is gamma correction for the thumbnail)

The DNG from DNG4PS2 is color calibrated and could appear differently depending on the post-process software. (IMHO)
