How do you get CHDK to save raw files with a raw extention?

Hello I am really confused
i am using the s3 version of chdk
and ive figured out ho to get into alt mode and do extended shutter times
i also thought it was shooting in raw but all of the extensions are jpegs
how do I make chdk save in raw?
or are the jpegs actually raw photos that I just need to convert in raw some how?
or is it a third option that's blatantly obvious that I have somehow missed?
any advice will be most welcome

thank you
max

First, I'd check to make sure you are indeed shooting RAW as well as JPGs. This is easy to check, simply take a shot and the time it takes before you can take the next shot should be moderately longer than a simple JPG.

- If not, then make sure that you set up your CHDK options to take RAW photos as DNGs and that you have successfully run and saved a "badpixel.bin" file and then retest.

- If the time to take a photo is moderately longer, then you may be looking in the wrong folder for the DNGs. The "DCIM" folder will have at least three folders: "CANONMSC" and two other folders. The other folders will look something like "100CANON" (with the DNGs) and another folder like "115_11" (with the JPGs).

Good luck.

If you are shooting raw, there will be a long pause after each shot for the file to save.

If you are trying to find the files over USB, the raw files may or may not show up, depending on your raw extenstion and prefix, and what software you are using. A card reader is recommended.

If you are using USB, you must power cycle the camera once between taking pictures and connecting USB, or you will not see the raw files.

There are also "raw exception" setting in CHDK, which causes raw not to be saved in some modes.
Don't forget what the H stands for.

Make sure your card is "locked".  I found that after I extracted all the pics to computer and reinstalled the card and forgot to lock it again, I only got jpgs.

Removed and locked the card-->got jpgs and raw back. The chdk sw doesn't load if it's not locked.
