Barney, Thanks for your comments - I take your point about the lens settings.
I don't think I explained my problem the display of Miscellaneous Values (such as the ISO setting) The menu text is fine, it is the actual screen display of the values that I find too small. I would guess the Values display on the 530 is about half the text size of the  screen print images showing the  Miscellaneous Values in the CHDKmanual http://images.wikia.com/chdk/images//e/e7/CHDKmanual.pdf such as shown on page 10. If the Values were displayed at the size in the screen print it would be much clearer.

regards

hi all,
i'm really sorry to "jump in" just like this, but i could really use some help. i've heard of this project for the first time, and i'm really confused. i have canon A530 and would like to know what should i exactly do in order to get these great new features like shooting in raw, or override exposure times...
once again sorry if i'm too boring, i really tried to read the faqs and stuff, but it's just too confusing to me.

Hello & welcome pike8,

you should start here: CHDK what? Help me, I'm a newbie!

Then download the Allbest build for your camera Downloads # Allbest Build, you can also use a newer version from the latest Autobuild (beta version).

Have fun with CHDK !

Hi, guys
Thanks for doing this great job. Everything seems to work apart from remote shooting. Didn't quite understand how it should work. So, I tick "enable usb remote" in the menu and try with standard cannon remote capture software and Cam4you and they don't think that camera enables remote capture. FAQ doesn't seem to help. Any suggestions?

Thanks again,
Vlad

The CHDK remote USB feature is for the usage with an USB cable switch, have a look to CHDK wikia: USB_Remote_Cable.
With USB remote enabled the camera only detects a power signal on the usb port so with a script (also scripless in some new beta builds) we can react to this...

If your camera is not supported by a remote capture software (like Cam4you), CHDK can't change this, see also CHDK wiki: FAQ - Why won't my Remote-Capture programs work ?.

While the USB remote feature is enabled (in the CHDK menu), the camera will not be recognized by the PC...
