Hi,

it seems that there is a new Firmwareversion 1.00n out for SX30IS. My brand new Cam arrived yesterday and after trying to get CHDK running i've noticed that the Firmware is 1.00n and this doesn't match with the available ones 1.00e, 1.00h or 1.00l !

Therefore i've dumped the 1.00n Firmware manually via Scripting and you can download it here:

https://rapidshare.com/files/2708163410/PRIMARY.BIN

Hopefully someone is able to get the CHDK running with this Firmware together.

Best regards
tekknix

Here is an initial port to firmware 1.00n.

I would suggest trying manual booting first.
Unpack the zip file to your SD card (you should have DISKBOOT.BIN and PS.FI2 in the root directory).
Put the card in the camera (unlocked) and start the camera using the rear 'Play' mode button not the top power button.
Select the 'Firm Update..' option from the first menu - don't switch to record mode before doing this or the menu option won't be there.
You should get an option to update firmware from 1.0.0.0 to 1.1.0.0, this won't actually update the firmware, it's just how CHDK boots manually.

If all goes well the camera should restart with CHDK loaded - you should see the CHDK logo and be able to use CHDK functions.

Since I don't have a camera with this firmware version there's also a good chance it won't work at all.

Phil.

CHDK ports:
  sx30is (1.00c, 1.00h, 1.00l, 1.00n & 1.00p)
  g12 (1.00c, 1.00e, 1.00f & 1.00g)
  sx130is (1.01d & 1.01f)

  sx40hs (1.00d, 1.00g & 1.00i)

Will try this and report back.

Some questions, is it worth flashing an earlier firmware  eg L or is it even possible, just to try out the stable CHDK?
Is there a Canon firmware changelog available on the net?

Thanks and best regards,

Mus.

There are no firmware updates from Canon for the SX30 - it is extremely rare for Canon to release a firmware update unless major problems are found.

Hi all,

Seems that the SX30 has yet another new firmware version, 1.00P. Just got the camera in the last 48 hours, and I'll dump the firmware as soon as I figure out how to do so.

I suggest the canon basic dumper:
http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/Canon_Basic/Scripts/Dumper
Be sure to read the card setup link first.

You can also try the CHDK build for the closest known firmware version (100N). Sometimes Canons changes are small enough that a new port is not needed. If it doesn't work, the worst it is likely to do is crash your camera and force you to take the batteries out to reboot. Of course, there is no guarantee - any use of CHDK is at your own risk whether it is the correct version or not.
Don't forget what the H stands for.

I called Canon tech support today and they said that the 1.00p version of the SX30 firmware doesn't exist!  I purchased my SX30 in the last couple of weeks and it has a 1.00n firmware rev code.  This is not to say that 1.00p doesn't exist.  Tech support has been known to be naive about such things.

What are the differences between the 1.00n and 1.00p firmware revs for the SX30?  What does the 1.00p rev fix?

Thanks,

Maverick

So far no-one has dumped the this firmware version - without this I can't do a port.

The universal dumper should work - http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/Canon_Basic/Scripts/Dumper
If you can get the firmware dump, upload it to a file sharing site and post the link here.
