Hey hey I found the command to start/stop recording:

t gpio 43 sw out0
t gpio 43 sw out1
Very nice Stefan!

I've tested it too.

Start recording:
Code: [Select]
t gpio 43 sw out0
Stop recording:
Code: [Select]
t gpio 43 sw out1
t gpio 43 sw out0

Here is gpio dump (idle):
Code: [Select]
a:\> t gpio dump

Regarding the plug for the BUS socket, its the
DD1P030MA1 from JAE Electronics.
This one looks about right. Nice!

I assume your camera was in video mode when you send the command?
Can you please set camera to still image mode, and test if it works too?
Yes, it does work in Photo Mode too.
Delay between uart command or physical button press is simular.

It would be nice if somebody could analyse how cameras do (3D) sync via HERO bus cable.
I guess if HERO bus cable is connected between cameras, they enter some sort of special state where camera is waiting to start shooting.
Probably cameras will communicate via I2C or simply trigger one line on HERO bus.

Maybe 3D sync mode can be enabled with the right combination of ID pins in firmware v01.01.46?

Did you manage to measure the delay? How? How many ms is it?
Is it always exactly the same or does it change with light conditions?
Can you try with different lightning conditions? (Sunglases)

I am looking for this to work by the BUS, and with 5 cameras at once.

Thanks,
Jan

I am curious if anyone has any insight into the HD HERO 960 version. As far as I have been able to gather, it is identical in hardware (minus the extension port) and limited in the firmware only.
I think its rather unlikely they use the same hardware in HD HERO 960. Makes not much sence to me, but not impossible.

Has anyone tried to "unlock" it (adding the higher resolution and framerate modes) by modifying the 1080 firmware? Does anyone here know if it is even possible?
There is nothing simular to chdk for gopro (yet). I think there still a lot of stuff to discover before anybody can tell if we can  overriding camera parameter for example.

Not yet. Camera is current recharging ;)

Delay is cause by firmware because it does stuff like loading and extracting badpixel list before every shoot in Photo Mode.
Probably delay depends on other factors like SD-Card speed, how much files are on card, filesystem and more.

I already understand what you have in mind.

Looks like you have a "commercial" interest about this. As i'm working on this in my spare time (night) and just for "fun", don't try to rush it!

One can dream, can one?

Actually I am thinking about lending a second camera to you or Stefan for experimenting.
Would that be acceptable?
I might have a spare one available in 2 weeks.

Well, basicly i'm ok with it.

Actually I am thinking about lending a second camera to you or Stefan for experimenting.
Would that be acceptable?
Yes. Would be quite interesting. Question is when GoPro 3D HERO becomes available and if it's possible to buy HERO sync (3D) cable (or howevery they will call it) without a complete kit. Then we could probably analyse whats going on.

The 3"D kit" will be about 90 $US for the cable and the housing for 2 cameras. Without cameras. Once it's  available.
At the moment the 3D kit is not even listed anymore on the GoPro website. It looks like we can figure this out faster than GoPro making their 3D kit available.

Is there a suitable line available on the HERO bus ?

Microfunguy,
it has not been figured out what BUS line is used to trigger the camera.
That's what we all are looking for.

Collected knowledge of the the pinout of the BUS starts here (more detail on the following pages):
