Just got my A470 to use with CHDK

I am no hugh techy but did succeed to get CHDK to load and have semi figured out how to load an Intervalometer script

The script I am tring is the Ultra Intervalometer and set the delay for 10mins and the interval for 10mins.

It was running for only about 15mins and the camera is very warm it appears that my batteries are already dead :(  With only 1 picture.

Can someone help explain why the camera would be so warm?

Assuming what you consider very warm really is abnormally warm (heating is normal to a degree, you can find records of the internal optical/battery/sensor temperature sensors during timelapses on the forum for some cameras) and that your batteries are (or were) good, my best guess is that your camera is broken and consumes a huge amount of current, enough to heat up the battery and whatever faulty part that is discharging it.

You can try to verify by removing CHDK and playing around with the camera powered on in a similar fashion using the same batteries recharged.

I will do some searching to inform myself on what is normal temps.

My batteries were brand new :)

If there is anymore specific links to forum threads or off site docs that would help me please post.

Update

Currently got the Ultra Intervalometer working :0

This test I pluged in a the video out cord and took pics every 1min.

The camera did not get as warm :)

I also got about 350 pics from 2 AA's.  Is this about normal?

One thing I noticed when the camera was triggerred it would sometimes take 2 or 3 pics in a row.  Is this a setting I am missing?

That's ok for this camera...
You should get more images with good LSD NiMH (Low self-discharge NiMH) batteries ("Eneloop" type")...

Most probably an issue with the script you're using (some additional sleep commands may help); you may test another intervalometer script, e.g. this one:

Thanks for the info I will review

The plan with this camera is to place it out side with some SLA batteries.  I was hoping for a Intervalometer that will stop taking pictures in the evening.

Or is there a way to have a day Intervalometer and night setting Intervalometer ?

You may want to search for the sunset timelapse lua scripts that adapt exposure automatically even when it's too dark for Canon's autoexposure to work. Of course, scripts can also access the camera clock, so you could program the camera to do whatever you wish dependent on time of day.

Okay got my little voltage regulator and have my A470 hooked up :) woot woot

Now I am testing scripts.

The one I have running right now has a hour start and stop and also days.  It seems to work ok but I seem to get multiple pictures when it triggers

Is there a current script that has both day and nighttime settings

What Intervalometer is recommened.
