BTW, how do I load just the binaries? I have tried deleting all in the folders.

    Gene

I used the full beta7 for 1.00e, and it worked just fine.

Camera no longer crashes and it wipes out format but when loaded in PC shows full size for formating.

    So...closer.

    Gene

After creating the partitions in the camera the card should show as not formatted in your PC (I'm assuming you use Windows). If you right click on the card and select format it should show as a 2MB card size.

If this is not happening try low-level formatting the card in the camera first to completely wipe out the old format information (there's an option on the format screen to do a low-level format).

The only files you need to copy to the small partition are DISKBOOT.BIN and PS.FI2.

    Regards,
    Phil.

No improvement, I am also trying a 16gb class 10. I am using XP pro if that matters.

Another question Phil. I have slelected RAW in same directory as JP, but the RAW files still end up in a separate folder. Not what I expected, is that the way it is supposed to work?

After running the 'create two partitions' option in the camera, if you power off and then power on the camera what happens? In record mode you should get a message at the top that there is not enough space on the card.

If you take this card out of the camera and put it into a card reader on your PC, it should show as unformatted. If you then try and format it and it shows as the full card size then it sounds like the driver for your card reader is doing something odd.

The 'save RAW in JPEG directory' option is currently ignored. The folder naming logic has changed with the new generation of cameras and I haven't figured out how to do this yet.

I'll add this to the known issues list.

You may be correct. I tried it in a Vista machine and it looked like it might work. Vista machine would recognise 2mb and format it. Then managed to format a large partition. However, the XP machine would not read the card and wanted to format it again. So it could be my reader in the XP laptop.

I need it to work with the laptop. So I will manual boot for now until I figure out the problem. An external card reader might be a solution or load images from the camera. I might try to get it working on the 8gb card tomorrow.

Thanks for your efforts and patience.

    Does this help ?  :-

Partly, the SX30 (and G12) have a menu option to name the folder by day or by month. So you get a folder named 129_3012 (daily) or 129___12 (monthly).

I was able to find a firmware function that builds the directory name give the current file counter and system time, this function deals with the daily/monthly option so the next version should have this option enabled.

Beta 8 has been uploaded - RAW files can now be saved in the same directory as the JPEG images.
