There's not much sense in implementing hdr algorithms on the camera, if this is what you mean. But it's most definitely possible to write a script to e.g. periodically take an exposure time bracketed series of photos for post processing on a PC. I'd be surprised if one didn't exist already.

Here's a good one - link off the CHDK script web page: http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/UBASIC/Scripts:_HDR_time_lapse

i've been using the hdr script with good results, but that not what i meant...i mean in a single shot is it possible to implement exposure variations to cover details in both shadows and highlights.

In a single shot DR is limited by the sensor.

i have just seen this on a friends i phone with built in camera, it takes 4 different exposure shots then produces one shot from the four, it was pretty impressive, it also keeps the four other shots.without loading into a special pc program. :o

Look,  if you have enough memory and enough power within your cam, you could develop HDR stacking soft to transfer raw memory into alternative memory, using HDR algorythm (upon Ev), and then save this alternate memory into OpenHDR formated file.

It could be as fast as memory process and HDR algo.

But is it better than my lua script which is able to automate HDR panoramic photos ?
