Manually control 60D H264 bitrate

Hi,

I have read alot about how its not possible to change the codec, or colourspace, or use RAW for encoding video but not about the potentials of hacking the bitrate that H264 is encoded at.

I have just bought a 60D (with an EF24-70 lens) and at the moment I am a bit underwhelmed. I have not done any extensive testing but to me it looks like the image is simply over compressed, it looks like web video rather than raw video footage i.e. it looks like video looks after it has been compressed, which of course it is.

I have a class 10 SD card that will record at anything upto 25Mbps (or MBps never sure which) apparently according to other info I have read the camera records at apprx 5. I know from exporting video from editing suites that doubling this would make a major difference.

You may have to sacrifice the ability to playback on a 60D (with only one DIGIC) but to me there are certainly situations when this would definately be worth it.

Anybody got any ideas on that one?

D
