Am an idiot, but...

New camera ( Canon powershot SX 30 IS) loaded CHDK fine BUT the ONLY menu I seem to get is the SCRIPTING menu. I cannot get out of it--I pressed the SET button, the arrows- everything--stays stuck in scripting. So far I have loaded CHDK about 15 times---HELP !!--I want to access the main menu to set the permanent boot option for CHDK. I may be missing something simple, but it is driving me crazy, feel like uninstalling it all and getting drunk !! Can I "exit" the scripting and "enter" the main menu somehow please?

Hi !

Try this: turn the cam on by pressing the "Play" button, and tweak/set your CHDK in review mode.

HTH,

Thanks but...I pressed the on/off button for up to ten seconds--no CHDK display

I don't recognise a "play" button, but I pressed and held the Playback / Review button--also for up to ten seconds--no CHDK.

What next? reformat the card and re-install again? If so what happens if the same event re-occurrs?

I managed to get to another menu ( NOT by following the "read me" advice however-=-menu is totally different - I tried " other stuff" instead) I can highlight " make card bootable" but pressing enter does nothing, therer seems no way to make it react even when highlighted !. Also when scrolling down the menu list the display of CHDK goes off intermittently, pausing brings it back but then I have to re-route through the menu to get to debug parameters yet again. Is this supposed to happen??

Hmm ... are you sure you've got the right version ?
This sounds a bit weird for a cam that has left the beta stage ...

PS if needed info how to check your version is here

Version appears to be correct ( 100l), and was downloaded automatically with "acid".

Have I grabbed a BETA version with bugs then? So far I still cannot "make" the command "make card bootable" react in any way on mt SX30 IS !!! Any suggestions would be welcome ( and yes the version posted is 100l which is the same version as checked on the camera.) Am I missing something simple please?

Aha ! just read the fine print in the user manual--it tells me that for the card to be bootable it must be FAT or FAT 16--and that "large" cards" will be formatted in the camera to FAT 32---could this be my problem as I have a 32 gig card...why did no one suggest this before???!!! Assume I must format EXTERNALLY to FAT 16....
