What is the purpose of encoding diskboot.bin and related files?

Wouldn't it just make it easier for everyone to just execute the diskboot.bin without any kind of encoding or anything?

Surely - you may ask Canon why they protect their intellectual property ;)

i guess thats more security that a wrong firmware do not boot partly, because read out firmware is not encode.

but a better way than encode i think is use on every camera a long word with Camera ID on same address

the firmware can check the id and do nothing then, if wrong
