For some reason, I can't push the shutter speed past 1/1600, even when ND filter is on.

Is this simply not possible, or am I doing something wrong?

Shutter speeds below 1/1600 work O.K., by the way.

I've googled for hours, and I haven't found anyone bringing this up; hence my inquiry here.

I hope you guys and gals have a solution- for once, I hope I'm the dumb one! :P

Are you following the instructions for shutter speed override in http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/CHDK_User_Manual ?

I do believe I have, yes- anything below 1/1600 works fine.

In any case, it seems the camera can't be pushed beyond 1/1600, though I haven't heard of anyone else having this problem elsewhere.

I still hope I'm the idiot:)

I have the same camera and I've got the same problem. But I'm new to this CHDK hack and possibly I'm not setting the parameters correct. Anyone succeeded?

Are you basing that conclusion on the EXIF data in the image ?
It only records the Canon 'native' values, that do not go beyond a certain speed.

You can look in EXIF 'makerNote' to see the CHDK value.

Does the brightness of the image decrease above 1/1600 sec (use the histogram to verify) ?

Well, I now can confirm that the override does work on IXUS 960IS also. I set a speed to 1/8000, ISO to 1600 and took a close-up picture of a fluorescent tube and it was a nice exposure completely different to a "normal" overexposed shoot.

Normally, 1/8000 sec will be three stops darker than 1/1000 sec.

In the case of CHDK override, I am sure it will not be .. though it will be darker.
