SD1000 ISO Settings Error

Now that the SD1000 aperture issue has been fixed by the Allbest crew (Thanks guys), here is another issue, if you guys are up to it.

On the SD1000, the manual ISO settings in Allbest (as of build #35) do not work or I don't know how to work it. I can't go above ISO 1600. ISO 6400 certainly doesn't work and setting ISO values gives me erratic results.  For example, if I set the ISO override to 64*100, the OSD in record mode shows ISO:6400, however, in play mode it says ISO:8000. And the picture is same as ISO:1600.

However, using propcase 149, I am able to go upto ISO 6400. I know its ISO: 6400 or very close to it since I get the green night vision look and the histogram is showing a much lighter image. (See discussion here: http://chdk.setepontos.com/index.php/topic,585.msg4980.html#msg4980)

Any ideas on fix?

After doing further testing, it seems that there is a bug in Allbest code.

When I manually set the ISO settings with camera software, I can clearly see propcase 149 being set to the ISO value. When I try to set the ISO override in Allbest, propcase 149 is being set to 0 by Allbest. I think this is where the problem is.

Hi, Ixus! and Barney Fife too! Glad to see you!  :xmas
Not quite so
For iuxs 70 149 Prop. case is ISO mode (Auto, Hi, 80 and so on). More correct operations with ISO via CHDK are in AUTO Iso mode. Therefore CHDK turns on AUTO-Iso mode in this case. Changing of 149 Prop. directly leads to unpredictable results from point of view white balance at least (there were some experiments with this prop. case. You are not a first). And Grand set_iso_dagerous operates with this property case!
Real prop. cases that affect ISO for that model are PROPCASE_SV=>247, PROPCASE_DELTA_SV=>79
I'm sure that ISO 6400 for IXUS 70 is out of its hardware limits and all you see are color artefacts
My advance. You can more correct test hardware limits of your camera in such sequence of actions:
1.Set ISO mode to AUTO
2.Go to menu entry "Bracketing by ISO".
3.Set bracketing direction to "+".
4.Set some ISO shift. For Example of 20
5.Choose some initial value for ISO via menu entry "Iso override". For example of 10
6.Set continuous shooting mode
7.Capture set of shoots
8.Analize histogram shift at each step and fix moment when there is not differences between shoots
9.See Exif info for extreme points you recieve via Exiftooll (here you'll see marketed values)
This way is of 99% right way for most of cameras

Barney,

Use Propcase tester script from here:
UBASIC/Scripts: a property case value tester - CHDK Wiki

Use the propcase 149 for ISO (if digicIII)
PropertyCase - CHDK Wiki

Manully changing propcase 149 in SD1000 has been very predictable in my case. The camera displays the right ISO on screen, adjusts aperture/shutter speeds automatically, and display right ISO in Exif. It works as if its a built in setting of original firmware. Setting ISO using Allbest results in wrong ISO display on screen, no auto aperture/shutter setttings, and wrong ISO in exif.

I haven't tested white balance. However, the pictures look ok at ISO 3200/6400, nothing different from one step lower ISO's. ISO 2500 looks purple. What would be the procedure to test for correct white balance?

In my testing Prop 79 is always 0 and prop 247 displays some value (maybe encoded in some way?) that does not correspond to ISO.

I am able to get ISO 3200, 6400 with very good results. At 6400 the image is very noisy and has green hue, but I think this is the case on all cameras at ISO 6400.

I don't know what the situation is on other SD/IXUS models, but the ISO override on SD1000 either does not work, or I am doing something wrong. I tried to go through Allbest source code, but it's very complicated, to say the least. There is very little comments/documentation and I don't have an IDE that would allow me to load the project and follow function calls for example. Where is the ISO override function located? Maybe I can play around with it and see what happens.

By the way, thanks for looking into this Allbest.

well, Ixus :)
Did you test your camera by my methods? It is absolutely adequate. Trust me please
Additionally for maximally correct results  you need to set shutter speed override to some value and set "nd filter" to state "Out".
Sense of those prop. cases that i point to I'll explain you later. And I'll tell you about difference between script and override in this circumctances. Sorry now is deep night in Russia ;)
