I'm a newbie to CHDK and trying to get it work on my Canon Powershot S2 IS.

I understand the procedure to get CHDK onto the camera but am stuck when trying to copy the required files onto the camera.
The camera shows up as a drive on Windows XP but doesn't allow to copy any files onto it.

Tried it on linux, it shows all the pics and I can copy them from the camera but not able to copy any files onto it.

Now I dont have a card reader and dont want to spend on it.

Can somebody please tell me how to copy the files onto the camera. It would behelpful

(No card reader -> no way for you to copy the CHDK to your card)

Actually, there is such way (for VxWorks cams)- FAQ - Q. Do I need a special card reader, or is it sufficient to connect the cam to the PC?

Thank's GrAnd for the info !

@praveengarlapati:
Sorry - my fault, had in mind that only the A610 & A620 will be supported by the UploadFirmware.exe.

After testing- can you pls. report whether it works with your S2is ?
I'll try it with my Ixus 50, too - so we can update this in the wikia.

Thanks GrAnd for the info.

I have read about the uploader earlier but on downloading I never saw an option for S2 IS.
Hence assumed that it won't work.

But after seeing your reply I just copied the A610 folder and changed the FirmInfo.txt in the A610_FIR folder as below:

----------------------------
[Firmware File Name]
PS.FIR

[Camera Model Name(s)]
Canon PowerShot S2 IS

[Firmware Version]
1.0.1.0

[CF Capacity (KB)]
1024
----------------------------

On the same lines in the folder A610_BIN I changed the FirmInfo.txt to

----------------------------
[Firmware File Name]
DISKBOOT.BIN

[Camera Model Name(s)]
Canon PowerShot S2 IS

[Firmware Version]
1.0.1.0

[CF Capacity (KB)]
1024
----------------------------

The UploadFirmware.exe has been used to upload both the files onto the camera and it worked perfectly.
I am able to boot just fine and use CHDK AllBest build.

So I guess if the correct camera model is updated in the FirmInfo.txt you could do on other models too.

@fe50:

We can update the information in wikia for S2 IS atleast. I hope you would have tried it for the Ixus 50 and it worked.

Ok, tested on Ixus 50 (SD400) fw 101b with latest Allbest #51 trunk 411, works fine !
----------------------------
[Firmware File Name]
DISKBOOT.BIN

[Camera Model Name(s)]
Canon DIGITAL IXUS 50

[Firmware Version]
1.0.1.0

[CF Capacity (KB)]
2048
----------------------------

----------------------------
[Firmware File Name]
PS.FIR

[Camera Model Name(s)]
Canon DIGITAL IXUS 50

[Firmware Version]
1.0.1.0

[CF Capacity (KB)]
2048
----------------------------

So only when we want to use scripts or work with RAW files we need a card reader. Nice !

You can transfer more than one file:

[Firmware File Name]
DISKBOOT.BIN
PS.FIR
and so on....

and even:
[Camera Model Name(s)]
Canon PowerShot A710 IS
Canon PowerShot A610

You can transfer more than one file:
...

Great, so we can put scripts to the card, tested ok (they are stored in the cards root),
works with a ver.req too, when the file has at least 1 byte size (empty files cause an error).

used the SX130 firmupdate tool from Canon website, changed to SX30 IS and works just fine.

but with a but:
in the firminfo, used like that
[Firmware File Name]
DISKBOOT.BIN
PS.FI2

working fine for SX30.
