If you have modified other hardware to work with your CHDK camera, you might want to let people know!

YooStar Tripod
« Reply #1 on: 09 / April / 2011, 22:12:44 »
I am trying to modify the tripod/quadpod and desktop/minipod that came with a Yoostar Entertainment System (a webcam/movie/greenscreen "toy"). I an definately not advertising it - it is a toy.

I bought this thing (Yoostar) for a little over $20, and it came with some "OK" accessories (tripod, greenscreen, etc).  The only problem is that they carefully designed it so you can't use the tripod with any other camera equipment unless you modify it.  I'll post pictures as I go along unless I completely ruin it.

If you don't already have one don't buy one (until you see pics of the components).  They are completely non-standard.  It should be easy to connect an adapter or zbar to the tripod.  I took apart the camera base and the female "quick connect" could also be easily screwed onto something else, which would allow use of the minibase or tripod..
Stay tuned (I won't post all of the pics here.  just an idea of what's going on).

Edit: as it turns out, the standard thread screw (1/4x20 US) in one of the pieces unscrews.  So I can screw it into the tripod and use the tripod for standard cameras. I could also put the yoostar cam on a regular tripod (but I'll probably never even plug that camera in).  I still need to adapt the quick connect.  EDIT 2, After tapping new 1/4x20 threads into the minipod extension, and replacing the screw in the minipod base I am aboe to use both with standard tripods and cameras.  The base  will come in handy as a stabilizer.

I finished my modifications (for now).

As a result, I now have:

1. a "stable base" camera mount that is only an inch tall
2. a short tripod that extends from approx 12 to 20 inches
3. a tall tripod (2 - 5 feet)
4. a single camera sliding horizontal mount (with marked measurements)
5. a tripod extension

For a little over $20 it wasn't a bad "toy" to buy.
