Early in 2011 so we will have to see.  Probably more concerning is trying to do precision sync from a CA-1.  I'll have to look and see if we came up with a good way to do that in the new  USB code.  The issue is that you have to start the full-shoot on the rising edge of the full shoot pulse in order to be able to "sync" on the falling edge of the pulse.  But you don't know its a full shoot pulse (rather than a cancel pulse) until you have actually timed to pulse width - too late to then also sync.  This in not a problem with a conventional "one push" switch.
Okay .. had a few minutes to check the code.  The CA-1 should be okay for precision sync  (thanks vnd ) .  It times the CA-1 pulse width and once it sees something longer than 30 mSec, it assumes a "full press" and starts the full press sequence. About 120 mSec later,  as the USB voltage goes back to zero, if all cameras have reached the wait_until_remote_button_is released() state then they will all shoot together.

Long shutter speeds is working I've tested dark frames up-to 512 seconds, horrendous amp glow at the left side at ISO 80, so I didn't try longer. The exif still report only 15 seconds.

I just got the c firmware version going on my A1200, but don't see the menu item "Enable Synchable Remote Enable [●] / Disable [ ]". Enables synchable scriptless remote code originally used in Stereo Data Maker.

Many of us at publiclaboratory.org have been using this feature on the A 490/495s to trigger a pair of cameras in synch for IR and visible image capture for aerial photomapping. I was not able to get the camera to shoot on the second pulse on the USB input.

Is there a workaround? Or is it my usual operator error?

The USB remote code was rewritten some time ago and the code based on SDM removed.  The old version was last included in the 1.0.0 release and is no longer supported.

There should not need to be a "workaround" - just start using the new code.  It functionality is quite a bit cleaner and the User Interface is less ambiguous.

Thanks waterwingz,

I read the description of the new USB remote and set up as indicated on photo of menu, trying to replicate the settings for Multi-Camera Synchronization. However, when I plug and unplug the USB input from the computer (as a simple test providing the change in signal voltage), I don't get the camera to shoot. Is there something else I need to do?

Just setup my A1200 Remote menu to exactly match the picture you posted.  Works perfectly !  It focuses when I connect USB power,  shoots when I remove it.  If I disable the Sync setting,  it also works.  (You can tell the difference by watching the LCD. If the LCD blanks then the camera is waiting in Sync mode.  When it stays on,  its just waiting for the USB power to go away so that it can complete the shoot.  The difference is where the camera waits - in sync mode it waits much closer to where the actual shot is taken and LCD updates are disabled.)

A couple of obvious questions come to mind with your test.  First of all,  you need to be in regular shooting mode - not <ALT> mode.  And the camera needs to be in shooting mode (lens extended) not playback.

sorry if post is in a wrong section but my canon a1200 has a firmware version of 1.00A
is there any way to upgrade it to 1.00B or C ,i cannot seem to find any firmware updates .please help me.
