Extend Maximum Video Length (ixus 120is)

Advertisements
I just installed CHDK on my camera (IXUS 120is), after waiting a while for it to come out for my firmware (101a).
I've got a decent bit of knowledge in cameras and computers, but only once they're running. I don't know any programming and such.
I was wondering how/if I can override the 10 minute video limit on my camera. I've gone through all the menus, checked these forums, and used google as well, but I can't seem to find an answer (probably because i'm using five or so keywords in each search). Do i need to add a script, or is it already there?
(The video is HD 720p, and 10 mins is 1.69gb. I'm using a 4gb card; so technically, I should be able to shoot approximately 21 mins...)
Also, is it possible to change WB while shooting?
And lastly, i've done all the research, but I cant seem to find how to change aperture (Tv) values manually. Does the CHDK for my camera support it?
I'm quite happy with the optical zoom in video as well, i onyl wish it were a little quieter!

thanks,

p.s: I wont be online for the next two days... (hopefully i'll get some replies before that)

The IXUS120 does not have a variable aperture.  There is an internal neutral density filter that moves in and out to change between bright and dim lighting.

Thanks for that.
Anyone got any answers for my other questions?
Also, is there a script to automatically start recording again every ten minutes (assuming it's impossible to override the 10 min max)...?

there is a script that automatcially starts recording again however use at your own risk cause it was developed for a diffrent camera

@title MultiMovie
@param x one part time in sec
@default x 590

f=0

print "record will start..."

press "shoot_half"
sleep 1500
:new
f=f+1
press "shoot_full"
release "shoot_full"
if f=1 then release "shoot_half"

print "file number: ";f

s=get_time 0
m=get_time 1
h=get_time 2
d=get_time 3
b=s+m*60+h*3600+d*3600*24

:loop
s=get_time 0
m=get_time 1
h=get_time 2
d=get_time 3
t=s+m*60+h*3600+d*3600*24
u=t-b
print "file number: ";f
print "time left:";x-u
if u>x then goto "reload"
sleep 900
goto "loop"

:reload
print "reloading..."
press "shoot_full"
release "shoot_full"
print "waiting for ready..."
:waitloop
q=get_movie_status
if q=1 then goto "new"
print "status:",q
sleep 100
goto "waitloop"

it may need some changing to work on your camera cause this was developed for the Powershot SX130

the default is in seconds its set to 9:50 if you use the non-hd modes set the default to 3600 thats an hour as the other mode have a hour limit at least for the SX130 it is dont know bout your camera though

The script works, but there's a number of problems with it:
I can't zoom (digital or optical) while running it.
It displays a massive (5 lines high) box in the lower left of remaining time for the clip beeing filmed, updating every second.
If i press the shutter to stop recording in the middle of a clip, once stops the script, then again stops the video, but starts the script again, even thogh its not videoing (?).

Do you have the link for the thread about the script?

1. you can zoom while script is running clear the CHDK ALT screen without stopping the script and you can zoom
2. the time is in seconds you can start it and clear the CHDK screen and let it run in the background
3.you didnt clear the ALT Menu for CHDK it sounds like for this one you (at least on my camera dont know bout yours) to start the script you bring up the ALT menu and press the shutter button, that starts the script then make the alt menu go away by pressing what button it is on your camera and you'll stop the recording by pressing the shutter whenever you need to stop it the script will still run so bring back the alt menu and press shutter again to stop the script

its post 253 for the script

You're right, you're right, and you're right. Thanks for that ;-).

Anyone know any way to override the maximum video limit? Has it been done on any cameras?
