CHDK info when you turn LCD 180 degrees

Has anyone tried this?

Well, today I did it on my A620 (Allbest b34). It is an interesting, but bug-like, result!

All the CHDK information (battery level, clock, RAW indicator and the Misc info) gets mirrored along the horizontal axis. That is, say the RAW icon normally occupies, for example pixels around 50, 0 (x,y), with the screen at 180 degrees, the RAW icon will appear at 50, 200 on the LCD. However, it no longer says RAW but WAR - each letter is flipped on its vertical axis, so the R looks like the Cyrillic 'ya' sound (the backwards R that you see in the title of Borat or Hunt for Red October). All the numbers and Misc values are similarly mirrored on their vertical axis.

It seems that the camera is realising it needs to mirror everything when the screen is turned 180 degrees, but CHDK is not quite as aware, so it doesn't also compensate by moving things from the right side to the left side of the LCD, and mirroring the text so that it is legible again.

HOWEVER, if the LCD is turned 180 degrees, but then pushed back against the camera (to go into fixed-LCD mode), then everything looks OK again.

Yes, I noticed this half a year ago on GrAnd's builds, but didn't bother
Re-mirroring whole text wouldn't be simple to program, I suppose

Actually, it's not a big deal. ;) But the mirroring depends on the option. Read this: S2 IS CHDK text reflection when moving LCD monitor

White Screen after rotating LCD 180deg
« Reply #3 on: 06 / June / 2008, 11:23:05 »
Hi all,

hmm, as soon as I rotate the LCD of my S5 by 180 degree, the LCD display is painted completely white.  :(

If I switch to <ALT> mode of CHDK, then everything is fine. CHDK text on display is mirrored, but that's no problem.  ;)
After switching back to normal mode, display is white again.

Camera is Canon S5 IS with Firmware:GM1.01B.
used CHDK is from allbest-s5is-101b-51-410.zip.

Did anyone else observe this behaviour?

Did I answer to correct thread? Maybe this is DryOS specific behaviour, then please move to correct forum (maybe DryOS development forum?).

Thanks in advance and best regards,
tommi

Switch the Flashlight option off in the CHDK Misc menu. :)

Aaaargh, I read about the flashlight some time ago. But I never used that option, so I forgot about that. Maybe I had activated it while playing with CHDK and changed some menu entries without having a real plan. Now I wanted to use my camera with rotated LCD and there was the activated flashlight. Next time I read the f****** manual first! :-X

Thanks GrAnd!  8)

Switch the Flashlight option off in the CHDK Misc menu. Smiley

OOOOH! So THAT'S how you use the flashlight! I couldn't figure it out (and didn't really bother searching). But next time I go camping, and forget my flashlight, that'll help (luckily I bring my cam everywhere!)

About the mirroring thing, I don't really think it is that much of a problem. I mean the 180 degree thing is mostly for self shots, and you don't really need to be seeing anything except your pic anyway when you do self shots. So I would not make it a top priority to fix. (I personally never use the 180 degree flip)

Well the mirroring problem was fixed by microfunguy in sdm,so the code is already existing. Chdk even is drawn depending on the state of the orientation sensor, meaning you can hold the cam sideways and still be able to read everything.

No, that will not work.
Stereo photographers (including me) sometimes mount one camera upside-down in order to get the lenses closer together.
This is so that you can get a bit nearer to the subject without the stereo effect hurting your eyes.
On my A620, there is a different propcase value when the camera is inverted but on some cameras there is not.
So, in SDM we have to define the camera orientation in a menu item.
